When is it time for a portfolio career?

When is it time for a portfolio career?

Our clients decide to create a portfolio career for different reasons.

  • They want more variety from their work.
  • They know it is time to develop the part of their talents that have been ‘put on the back burner’ for years – e.g. their creativity.
  • They are self employed already but there is more competition, companies are spending less and they need to broaden out their work options, for more certainty and peace of mind.
  • They plan to retire, but not yet! A portfolio career is a ‘stepping stone’ to wind down gently, but still work, just more flexibly to suit their needs or reduced hours that suits caring responsibilities.
  • They are finding it hard to secure a job, whether ageism, shortage of suitable roles, a higher and higher standard of candidate and need to rethink.
  • They are young and thinking about which career, so want to explore different work projects, employers etc.
  • They have developed a ‘side gig’ alongside a job and want to take it further to the next stage.
